    As a woman who wants a baby more than anything but can’t bc I’m infertile. I know what I’m missing and it really makes it much harder. Everyone I know who never wanted kids end up having them and even through the hardest times they say their children are the BEST thing they ever done with their life. I’m a wife but not a mother and I or society makes me feel less of a woman.

    Hey, I'm a big fan of your podcast, and I appreciate these issues being addressed, but let's keep it accurate. Trevor made a rather dismissive mention of autism, including aspergers which immediately raises red flags. The biggest concern is based on the fact that autism and ADHD are co-occurring to the extent that we have a name we use for the combo: auDHD. Autism is *not* currently understood by the medical industry or by mainstream society, is not a mental illness (just for point of fact), and aspergers has been dropped as a diagnosis altogether for several reasons related to the fact that autism is misunderstood and because of the history of the name. This isn't nitpicking. I'm alerting you to the fact that if you're discussing issues of trauma, complex PTSD, and neurodivergence, you need to be operating with current and factual information in the first place. In the case of autism, please make yourself aware of the #actuallyautistic movement versus the DSM version which is misleading and insufficient. ADHD is definitely not the "weirdest" misconception going on in this field of knowledge. The discussion of ketamine and other alternative treatments for trauma need to be specifically included, especially because of the prevalence of late diagnoses and resulting trauma, which is unique. Complex PTSD is *extraordinarily* present and disabling for adult autistics, and exacerbated by the disinformation and lack of awareness or acceptance. I'm queer, auDHD, physically disabled with complex PTSD. If you leave autism out, you erase all of me. Take a quick look into it and see how many people like me (especially the Black women affected by this) would appreciate your advocacy as you discuss the topics that directly affect us.

    So much of what we attribute to the brain is feeling that starts in the body. Anxiety starts in the stomach and causes the body nervous system to react. This is then adopted by the brain. So we treat it as if it starts in the brain. What you eat or drink pushes how you feel. You don’t get drunk cause you were thinking about drinking you get drunk because you consumed alcohol. This is just me thinking about it.

    The real reason they are telling him it's shame is because they want him to feel shameful about the things he has been doing.. It's irritating when they say depression is a matter of chemical imbalance, but it's so obviously actually situational. This is why the majority of anti-depressants are useless and dangerous on top of that. Ketamine therapy along with MDMA therapy for PTSD, have been so effective in treating trauma and preventing things like suicide... It blows my mind that it's still so cost prohibitive. Also that people still think you can just pop some E and do this yourself, but you can't - the entire point is working through your issues with someone else.

  • @jakedill2468
    @jakedill2468 4 години тому

    We have a society in America that prioritizes productivity and the maintenance of the status quo above all else. That’s where a lot of the self shaming comes in. When you’re rich you can afford to really step away and analyze your situation but if you’re poor everything becomes several extra steps just to meet your basic needs. These things go beyond what an individual can do to help themselves. There always needs to be accountability for behavior but have to look at it through a broader context of the way our system creates these conditions.

    I have a Mississippi family also, and as a bleeding heart liberal, LGBTQ ally, pro choice atheist, I can kick up some dust about beliefs at dinner and by morning we're all ready for pancakes and coffee. I think most people would rather hear each other out and choose to get along in the end. It's the social war, viral garbage on social media and regular media that makes us believe otherwise.
